The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Fair Lawn Police Department have been conducting a joint investigation into a suspected arson Tuesday on Berdan Avenue.

The Fair Lawn Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutor's Office are conducting a joint investigation Tuesday into a suspected arson on Berdan Avenue.

A suspicious fire broke out overnight Monday in the basement of 1-15 Berdan Ave., a for-rent property where no one was currently living, authorities said. A ground floor window on the home's west side was partially broken.

Investigators have been on the scene since 8 a.m. Tuesday, conducting interviews and searching the property. They will remain at the home until the active crime scene is fully cleared, authorities said.

The house is owned by Mohammad Maqbool, according to the New Jersey Association of County Tax Boards website.

Members of the police department and the prosecutor's office declined comment on the scene. A call to the prosecutor's office has yet to be returned.
