Borough Sets Regs for Sponsored Non-Resident Memorial Pool Memberships
At a work session in early April, council agreed to sell pool memberships to sponsored non-residents this year.
Following a consultation with the head of the Recreation Department, the borough has established general regulations and a price structure for non-residents who purchase memberships at Memorial Pool this summer.
The fee schedule for non-resident memberships will mirror the current fee schedule paid by residents of towns who can already use the pool based on a prior shared service agreement with Fair Lawn.
Memberships will cost $325 for an out-of-town family, $160 for an out-of-town adult and $95 for an out-of-town senior.
Out-of-towners who purchase pool passes must be sponsored by a Fair Lawn resident who belongs to the pool. No more than two non-resident families, two non-resident adults and two non-resident seniors may be sponsored by a single Fair Lawn member family.
The price paid by Fair Lawn residents to belong to the pool will remain $175 for a family, $85 for an adult, $55 for a junior (under 16) and $20 for a senior. Non-swimmers may visit the pool for free.
Also for the first time this year, children up through age 23 who live at home will be covered under the pool's family membership plan.
In previous years, after a child who had been on his family's membership plan aged out of the school system, he would be forced to purchase an additional $85 adult pass to continue using the pool.

When will the town do the right thing? Dumont doesn't burden it's citizens, why won't they simply privatize the pool and allow a non profit run it?
Instead of having an uninsured trailer park that losses money, we could have an asset that truly adds value to the town.
Yet another council failure.

Here's an idea: Why don't YOU run for Council next year, gain a majority of your peers on the Council, and YOU close the pool. Or privatize it. Or whatever. It's not closing and neither is the Rec Center. Time to get over it.

Chris that's an interesting idea. However, I would never get the Republican nomination given its current leadership and I wouldn't dream of running as an independent. If a well know honest person like Stewart Pace who has lived in this town for a long time, courted by both party was beat 5 to 1, what chance do I have?
The reason the councils have had success in continuing the plunder is because they separate the theft from the benefit. People are starting to wonder where that $10k a year (avg property tax) is going. I will continue to ring the bell on waste, fraud and abuse. Social media is changing the game. The more people know, the less like the plunder will continue.
I don't advocate filling in Memorial Pool, just that those who use it, pay for it, and not just a small portion. In a private, not-for-profit's hands, it could actually be improved an expanded. Up until a few months ago, it was the closest thing we had to a trailer park. Not that I want to flare up another Radburn fight, but our pool is nicer then the town town. Use google earth, there are dozens of pools in Fair Lawn. Why should those pool owners pay for the tiny minority that use the government pool?
I don't advocate knocking down the Ganz Mahal, but that doesn't mean we should continue to waste money there either. The money is already lost, unfortunately we can't clear the debt if we tried to sell it, but we all know the building is under utilized. And government is the reason why.

Here is a question. Who has a shared service agreement with Fair Lawn? If the pool were to be closed (I prefer it open) - what other towns have an agreement with us to allow us to use their pool?

the towns that can use our pool are towns that don't have pools of their own such as Elmwood Park and Saddle Brook. No other towns with their own pools share access. But anyway can purchase a membership to the Paramus Pool without sponsorship. I kind of wish that Fair Lawn would open it up more, even with sponsorships you can only sponsor a few people and I have a lot of friends who live in other towns who have pools such as Tenafly who would love to join.
