Community Center Hosts First Dance for Special Needs Teens

Special needs teenagers from across Bergen County are welcome to attend a dance being held Friday, April 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Community Center.

The Fair Lawn ADA Committee will hold its first dance for teenagers with special needs Friday at the Community Center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Until now, the ADA Committee's bi-monthly dances had been open only to special needs adults 21 and over, but increasing demand from parents of special needs teens prompted the committee to hold an event for a younger crowd, committee co-chair Marianne Pettineo said.

She said the dance would pair a cadre of teenage volunteers from the Fair Lawn High School National Honor Society, Boy Scouts and St. Anne's confirmation class with the special needs guests to foster positive interactions and meaningful experiences for both groups.
