Fair Lawn Acquires New Park
The deal with Mac Brothers Developers will preserve open space along Blue Hill Ave.

Fair Lawn closed a deal last week to preserve open space and add a new park to the borough's landscape, with plans to take resident input on the use of the land.
In the deal finalized January 17 with Mac Brothers Developers, LLC, of Englewood Cliffs, the borough paid $312,000 for a lot along Blue Hill Avenue. Half the funds were provided by the town's open space fund.
According to Mayor John Cosgrove, the council's long-term effort to acquire the space will prevent construction by the previous owner. Because the property was paid for through open space funds, the borough is unable to build any facility there.
When the weather warms, the council plans to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony where it will take input from the neighborhood on what to put in the space, but the intention right now is to leave it a passive park.
"What the council indicated they want to do," borough manager Tom Metzler said, "is have the neighbors within 200 feet of the park at the ribbon cutting to give them an idea of what they would like to see there."

Hmmm, for as long as I can remember,(50 years) this "lot" at the corner of Blue Hill and Winslow Terrace has been part of the Brookdale Park.
The grass has been maintained by the Borough Parks Dept, The Borough constructed two asphalt paths, erected a Park Bench,posted Park signage with ordinances and finally smack dab in the center is a wooden sign dedication to DiCosmo Field. When did Mac Brothers obtain this land & how is it that our tax dollars maintained it?

I always thought that property was Fair Lawn's and part of Brookdale. I remember going there in the late 40s or early 50s and participating in town sponsored crafts program under Mr. "Monty" Weed.

I always thought this was part of Fair Lawn's park system. I remember going there in the late 40s and early 50s to participate in programs under the direction of "Monti" Weed.

It's kinda like the town buying the George St empty lot from the Fire Dept. and paying more for an empty lot than what the houses in the area are worth. Plus there is structure on it that is part of the Water Dept.
