Fair Lawn Auxiliary Police Seek New Members

Applications, which must be in by Oct. 19, will be accepted from residents of Fair Lawn, Elmwood Park and Saddle Brook.

The Fair Lawn Auxiliary Police, a volunteer organization that supplements the Fair Lawn Police Department, are accepting applications for new members.

Per New Jersey State Police guidelines, auxiliary police candidates must be residents of Fair Lawn, Saddle Brook or Elmwood Park, must attend a basic auxiliary police training course at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institution and must meet a specific hour requirement.

In addition to supplementing the police with patrols, courtroom security and community policing efforts, auxiliary police also assist the police department during special events, parades, carnivals, fireworks, DMV and DWI checkpoints, emergency traffic and crowd control, and evacuations. Auxiliary police officers will also occasionally be asked to provide assistance to other towns.

Interested applicants should contact Auxiliary Police Captain Andrew Flax by email at aflax@fairlawnpd.com or by phone at (201)-794-5362 x256. For more information on the organization, visit www.fairlawnauxpolice.com. Applications are due by Friday, Oct. 19.

The good ole boys club. What's the matter they can't find a single woman to work for free? Are none of these volunteers good enough to made real cops?

The Fair Lawn Auxiliary Police currently have a female officer who has been on for several years and have had many female officers serve in the past. Many former auxiliary officers have became full time law enforcement officers, but for most it is volunteering for the community as they have full time jobs and are not interested in becoming full time officers.

For insight and direction on selecting and training police as well as other important police improvement issues, take a look at “Arrested Development: A Veteran Police Chief Sounds Off About Protest, Racism, Corruption and the Seven Steps Necessary to Improve Our Nation’s Police” (Amazon.com in US and EU). And the blog at http://improvingpolice.wordpress.com/ where other current police improvement issues are discussed. Good luck and may we all experience not just good but great policing! Great policing is accomplished by police who are well-trained and led, restrained in their use of force, honest, and courteous to every person.

Tommy P, check the roster/headshot section again. Starting at the top the 5th row of headshots down you'll see one of our very active female officers.

Officer Collura began her service with the Auxiliary Police. Perhaps Shah suffers from being a new member of the coommunity.
