The FBI continues to investigate a pair of recent bank robberies in Fair Lawn, but have yet to name a suspect in either case.
On July 2, just before 1 p.m., a white male with a stubble beard wearing eyeglasses, a navy blue cap, a navy blue shirt and khaki pants, held up the Chase Bank at 21-01 Fair Lawn Ave., and fled the scene on foot. He did not show a weapon.
In late August, an FBI spokesman told Patch that the Bureau had received a "very, very good lead," in the case, however, recent correspondence has confirmed that the robber has yet to be identified.
A second robbery on Oct. 1, at the Chase Bank on Saddle River Road, is also under FBI investigation.
In that incident, a man entered the bank around 10 a.m. and made off with $3,400 in cash, fleeing north up Saddle River Road on foot, according to witnesses.
The man is described as a 5’8” to 5'11” white male between the ages of 30 and 40 with a slender build, short dark hair and a scruffy mustache and goatee.
He was wearing a black baseball cap with light stitching depicting a bird surrounded by flames, and was dressed in a striped gray long sleeve polo shirt or raincoat, blue jeans and white sneakers, with a black watch on his left wrist, according to Fair Lawn police.
A notice on the community policing website Citizen Observer, reports that the man who committed the Oct. 1 Fair Lawn bank robbery is also wanted for bank robberies in Garfield, Tenafly and Englewood. Clear surveillance photographs of the man are available on the Citizen Observer website.
