The borough's new Twitter account announced its presence with authority on Monday.
"The Borough of Fair Lawn is now tweeting! #fairlawn," the account declared with an emphatic hashtag. And like that, Fair Lawn had joined the Twitterverse.
Since its initial declaration the account has been relatively quiet, succinctly reiterating town updates that also appeared on the borough's Facebook page regarding the Adopt-a-Soldier Platoon, toy donations and a rabies clinic.
It's unclear at this point quite how or how often the borough will utilize the social media tool, but you can follow its updates @FairLawnBorough.
If you're looking for other borough Twitter accounts to follow, consider:
- @FairLawnPD for the Fair Lawn Police Department
- @FairLawnRiverRd for the River Road Improvement Corporation
- @FLAuxPolice for the Fair Lawn Auxiliary Police
- And perhaps the borough's most prolific tweeter, @JeanneBaratta for Fair Lawn Mayor Jeanne Baratta (Note: Baratta's account is a personal account).
You can also follow us on Twitter @FairLawnPatch.

What a classy public service message to tweet to her constituents on election day. That's something a mayor should resign over IMO.

Oh give it a rest. It's a joke. It's not like she's calling Palin a filthy word or lying to cover up the death of an Ambassador.

"Jeanne Baratta @JeanneBaratta
Haters saying I aint allowed to make a funny on my twitter acct? Bwahahahah! "
Rather than finding voter suppression funny, is it too much to act like a professional and have some respect for the office you hold, Mayor?

pretty sure the whole point of twitter is to follow friends and people who's opinion you are interested in. if you dont like barattas point of views why would you follow her on twitter?
you should prob start posting under a different fake name. i lean to the left, and even i dont take your comments seriously. you clearly think whatever a republican does is wrong and whatever a dem does is right... your way of thinking is part of the reason why dems and reps cant work together and the divide that is pushing this country apart

Twitter is a way to receive and disseminate information in real time. The reason, as in this article, to follow these accounts is to get information about your town. That is why someone would follow a mayor, regardless of what party they belong. This has the potential be very helpful in emergency situations, say like after a major storm when many people have no power and it's Election Day and need to know what to do. It also has the potential to let a leader send out knowingly false information and trick a few people into not voting. Funny joke, huh?

youre really reaching on this one BellairBerdan.
i guess theres no nice way to say this but if someone read the tweet you posted above and didnt realize it was a joke and didnt vote because of it, that person is an idiot and its probably best for the country if someone that unintelligent didnt vote.
"knowingly false information and trick a few people into not voting", come on no reasonable thinking person would think thats what she was trying to do. it might not have been a good one but it was cleearly a joke.
get a hobby or somethnig because you clearly have some unhealthy obsession with our mayor

I guess we have a difference of opinion (0). I think the mayor of one of the largest towns in Bergen County should conduct herself as a professional when representing Fair Lawn. You're happy she acts like, as you put it, "16 year old girl"

(0) when we are told who to follow to get news about Fair Lawn and she represents herself as the mayor, it does make a difference. Now that she has changed her account to private and protected her tweets, she can be as stupid as she wants.

i am a firm believer our elected officials should not have conflicting jobs working for the county executive, therefore i have never been a supporter of baratta or trawinski reamining on our town council.
i must admit the twitter comments bellairberdan posted seem more like comments from a 16 year old girl than it does a current mayor of fair lawn.
however i have to say bellairberdans comments on this site make him/her seem creepy, obsessive, and a little stalker like.

just curious to see how critical you are with democrats:
obama wants everyone to have the oppurtinity for a great education. This issue has been one of his talking points for both elections. his first time running for president he stated the price college tuition is absurd and he would help make college affordable for more americans. 4 years later college tuition is higher than ever and he had the nerve to run on this education for everyone platform after doing NOTHING about it his first 4 years.
During the 2008 campaign, Obama spoke out against the influence of special interests inside the executive branch, criticizing those who had "turned our government into a game only they can afford to play." today President Obama is considering the appointment of Vogue editor-in-chief and major campaign donor Anna Wintour as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain or France. Obama is also said to be eyeing campaign finance chairman Matthew Barzun and investment banker Marc Lasry for diplomatic appointments.
All three figures - Wintour, Barzun and Lasry - are Obama bundlers, each raising more than $500,000 for his 2012 re-election bid, according to estimates provided by the Obama campaign.
Just wanted to get your non bias opinion on these to subjects

First off, that's a really great name. I bet you didn't think that up by yourself though, just like your questions. I will however be happy to address them.
President Obama did take out the middleman in school loans, a start at making it more affordable for students. That is much better than the other option we were given by Romney to "ask your parents for the money"
It is senseless to argue over speculation. Why don't you wait until he makes his appointments? Personally, I would prefer the best person be appointed to any job, but to the winner go the spoils, just as the local Republicans have done when they came into power. (Didn't they promise to clean up Fair Lawn?)
Now let me ask you, if @BarackObama started telling the Republicans to vote on the wrong day to avert a crisis, what would be your reaction? Somehow I doubt you would be very generous or forgiving.

"Personally, I would prefer the best person be appointed to any job, but to the winner go the spoils, just as the local Republicans have done when they came into power."
see thats my problem with people like you. when the party you dont like does something they are wrong. however when your party does it you justify it by saying the republicans do it too. you see how that becomes an endless cycle that is destroying america.
for the record im an independent and believe the extrmeme liberrals and conservatives are equally part of the problem.

No, I believe you have some other problem. You may have a point if I ever questioned the right to appoint who one wants, which I never have done. ( I have questioned why these Republicans needed to pay their chosen ones much more than the people that served the same jobs in the past administration) I did however answer your way off topic question. Would you be so kind to answer the question I posed to you, on which this whole thread is based? Just to get your independent opinion on this subject of course.

if @barackobama tweeted: #USA remember #Democrats #VOTE today, RepublicansVOTE Tomorrow- This should help the Gas Lines! #tcot #election2012
i would have no reaction because i have an IQ higher than a door knob so i would immediately realize it was a joke. i dont find the joke too funny so i wouldnt laugh. therefore i would have no reaction if barack obama made a similar tweet to our mayor.
does that answer your question?

10:58 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2012
That's great, although from your attitude about mere speculations about our President I don't quite believe you. Now why don't you explain how thinking an elected official should act as a professional and respect the office is an "extreme liberral" idea?
