The Fair Lawn Farmer's Market will have special holiday hours on Wednesday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Normally, the farmer's market, sponsored by the Fair Lawn Garden Committee, runs every Wednesday through mid-October from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the New Song Church parking lot. 

Silver Lake Farm, located in Blairstown, is the market's primary vendor. Silver Lake sells an array of fresh produce, plants and flowers for a fair price. Other vendors include Fair Lawn's Nuts for You and a pickle and mushroom vendor, Mr. Pickle.

"We try to appeal to the apartment dwellers," said Garden Committee member Jane Spindel, who coordinates the farmer's market. "Since there's really no produce market on this side of town we were hoping that this would be a great venue for all of this fresh produce." 

Spindel said she's always looking for more vendors to contribute to the farmer's market and sell their wares. Any fresh food vendors -- other than flowers the market doesn't sell non-food items -- whose food is comercially-produced and are interested in selling on Wednesdays, can reach Spindel by contacting the borough, via the municipal clerk's office.

While the farmer's market currently lacks any entertainment for shoppers and can't afford to pay anyone to perform, Spindel said she'd also welcome anyone willing to perform for free at the market, including storytellers and musicians. 

She also requested that shoppers with any extra tote bags at home that they're looking to get rid of please bring them to the market so they can be used by othercustomers as to keep the use of plastic bags at a minimum.
