So another words after winter break our schools won't be safe. There should be an officer there every day to protect our children.

Arming teachers is one of the stupidest responses there could be to a school shooting. Or are you going to add mandatory training to keep up the skills they would have to have to safely carry weapons in a classroom full of minors, including those with the same mental health issues as the responsible parties in school shootings have? This is not the Wild West or a comic book where the hero whips out a gun and all the bad guys are killed. In real life, in a room full of terrified kids, to expect a teacher to fire a gun? Nuts.

There is an officer assigned to the High School, with an office there, every day. But every office assigned to a school is not patroling the streets or doing anything else. To keep this up, we'd need twice the number of officers we already have.

Well, if the Principal had a gun and was properly trained to use it, we wouldn't be burying 26 innocent people. She was the first person to confront Adam Lanza. With a 9mm, she could have prevented this tragedy. But the Liberals will keep saying that guns are dangerous. How many more innocent people have to die? Nuts will always have access to guns. Why not give the responsible people the right to defend themselves. And for the record, that AR15 didn't have legs, nor did it have a mind of its own. It was held and used by a mentally disturbed individual. That Principal died trying to protect her school and her kids. These are the people we want to have guns.

The article clearly says it all: The police is stationed only to "ease some of the uncomfortable feelings", not to protect our kids. In other words, nothing is done to really increase safety of our schools.

While we're at it, lets think about everything else we can kill with: Knife, baseball bat, car, poison, rock, throwing out of a window, punch, physical force....... Now, some of the ways we can die without intending: DWI, texting when driving, alcohol poisoning, stepping into an empty elevator shaft, hit by a car, falling off a roof, trip and fall......

Violent crimes committed with a gun are almost always done by a criminal. Law abiding citizens with guns almost never commit acts of violence with guns.

If the safety of our schools and children are not feasible, I don't know what is! We should have a security guard inside our schools at all times. So after winter break it's basically back to normal. Well not for parents!

Are you going to force the teachers to carry guns before or after you make them work for less money? Before or after you take away their unions, collective bargaining and health care and pensions? Before or after you lower standards and hire inexperienced people? What if teachers did have guns and a bunch of curious kids distracted the teacher to get the gun? What if the teacher thinking there's an intruder shoots a child or an innocent parent? Those educators were heroes. Don't belittle their heroism because they didn't have a gun.

You want to keep schools safe with guns, hire more trained police. Start a jobs program. Use the National Guard, but keep the guns in the hands of the people that are trained daily in how to use them, not pawn off the responsibility to someone who is trained in education because you're too cheap. The shooter's mother had legal guns and was "trained" in how to use them. They didn't save her, did they?

Bellairberdan you are absolutely right. There are people asking that a cop be placed in everyschool. Those are the same people who think cops make too much money. Cops were laid off because the people claimed that they could no longer afford them. You want more cops? well the two percent tax cap makes that very difficult for towns. For now, the cops that are being hired are replacing those that retire; that is it. If the people want more cops to man the schools then prepare for a significant tax increase, either board of Ed or municipal.

Throw a couple of extra bucks... Tell that to Gov. Christie. The 2% tax cap prevents a tax increase that is enough to pay these extra salaries.
