Fair Lawn Police Investigating TD Bank Robbery

A man robbed the TD Bank on River Road of approximately $2,800 Monday afternoon, police said.

Borough and county police are investigating a bank robbery at the TD Bank branch on River Road, located just blocks from the police station, Chief Erik Rose said.

The suspect, described as a tall, thin black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gloves, entered the bank around 2:19 p.m. Monday and slipped the teller a note indicating a robbery, Rose said. There was no verbal communication between the man and the teller, and no weapon was shown or mentioned, police said.

After receiving approximately $2,800 from the bank employee, the man fled on foot in the direction of Fair Lawn Avenue, Rose said.

Rose said it's unclear whether or not he eventually hopped into a vehicle parked down the road.

Officers from Fair Lawn and the county's K-9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Borough police are continuing the investigation in concert with the FBI.

While this marks the fourth bank robbery perpetrated in Fair Lawn in the past 18 months, Rose said he didn't think bank robbers were targeting Fair Lawn.

"It's just a matter of random bad luck," he said, noting that the suspect descriptions in the recent robberies do not match.

Its still a great idea to disband the BCPD. Although how is it the bank doesn't know how much money is missing?

@Taxpayers First! - The amount taken hadn't been released when the story was first published. It's since been disclosed that about $2,000 was taken.

Please, stop the hysteria ! Do you really believe a guy running from the scene of a Bank Robbery is going to make it all the way to WestMoreland School on foot without being seen? Besides, what sense would it make for him to even go that way ?
By the way Jonsey, our cops don't have electric collars: they can go into Paterson or any other town bordering Fair Lawn.

So this is what it boils down too? A person with a note and no weapon showing saying "give me money". Wow.

A person 2 blocks from the FL Police Station robs a bank and gets away without a trace. I would be curious on what the response time was in this instance.

Don't be facetious, you are starting to sound like an ass hole. TD Bank's policy is to not alert the police until the suspect leaves the building. And even in that instance, the alarm company for the bank gets the signal and is the middle man for the hold up alarm. More like T"he Most Antagonistic Man in the World."

You sound more like an Italian Hero than an American, full of bologna. What you are saying is it is impossible to catch a bank robber, even if he is right around the corner from the police station. I asked the logical question of anyone would have read this article and have knowledge of FL geography, you take it as some sort of personal criticism. Since you seem to know it all, how long does it usually take to respond to a bank robbery and has there been anyone who has ever been caught robbing a bank? Given your less than respectful tone, you might look in the mirror to see who is antagonistic.

Most Uninteresting Man: sounds like you have something against our police. In fact it is my understanding that response time in fair lawn is among the quickest of most towns in the area. I used to work for a bank and when an alarm comes in it doesn't go straight to the cops, it goes through bank security and then to the police. That delay gives the bad guy time.

Go Figure, I am not stating anything derogatory, just the fact of close proximity and a question that the article did not answer, which is response time to an actual serious crime. Wouldn't that be interesting to know? This is kind of like when you hear about a fire in the fire house, you wonder how that happens. There is not enough information to determine anything, which is more my point. You have an understanding of FLPD being amongst the quickest around, how do you know that? Is that actually true? I hope you are right, but I don't think you can accurately determine that as a matter of fact. I saw the suspect in another article, he wasn't wearing a Harvard hoodie, what could you extrapolate from that? lol! Four bank robberies in FL in 18 months with the last one around the corner from the police station with no arrests at the scene, do you think that it represents good service? Maybe it does. Your comment above seems like you have something against the Chief, do you? If you think the police do a good job, wouldn't you think they have good leadership too? You seem a bit inconsistent here.
