Fair Lawn's Memorial Day Weekend Events

A list of the weekend's Memorial Day activities, which run from Saturday through Monday.

 

Saturday, May 26

11 a.m. - The Fair Lawn Veterans Council will hold a Veterans Grave Decoration Ceremony. Veterans and scouts from Troop 53 and Troop 60 will gather at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery near the flagpole to place flags on the graves of deceased veterans. 

Sunday, May 27

2 p.m. - The Fair Lawn Veterans Council will hold a Memorial Ceremony at the flagpole at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The Fair Lawn veterans posts -- American Legion Post 171, Catholic War Veterans Post 1076, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 281 will participate -- and the Jewish War Veterans Post 651 will be present in spirit, as this will be a Jewish holy day. Boy Scout Troops 53 and 60 will also participate with their color guard and in uniform. Chairman of the Fair Lawn Veterans Council Jack Delaney will conduct the ceremony.     

Monday, May 28

8: a.m. - A ceremony will be conducted by Fair Lawn Veterans Council Chairman Jack Delaney in front of the municipal building at 8 a.m. with representatives of the Fair Lawn veterans posts. Individual post ceremonies will follow at the various post homes prior to the start of the parade.  

The Veterans Ceremony will be followed by a Fire Department ceremony.   

10:30 a.m. - Memorial Day Parade. The parade proceeds from Pollitt Drive to Fair Lawn Avenue to River Road to Berdan Avenue and down the Avenue of the Heroes into Memorial Park. All military, civic, volunteer and service groups are welcome to participate on this special day to honor our nation's veterans. 

Following the close of the parade, a special memorial program will be conducted at the Circle of Honor conducted by Col. Jack O'Neil, USA (Ret).

Weather's looking okay, but if it does rain enough to warrant cancellation of the parade, where would this be announced? Can someone arrange to have it posted here?
