Over 200 second grade boys and girls from six Bergen County towns competed in the annual North Jersey Junior Soccer League Tournament on Oct. 14 at the Warren Point Annex Fields in Fair Lawn.

"For most taking part it was the first time they had played a competitive match of any kind, and the excitement of playing teams from other towns was very evident all day," said NJJSL president Keith Brown, who started the tournament nine years ago to encourage young children from around the county to join the NJJSL's fall program for Under-10 through Under-14 teams.

Teams of second graders from Fair Lawn, Saddle Brook, Maywood, Harrington Park, Paramus, and New Milford participated in this year's tournament. Each player received a colorful jersey to play in and keep, and all took home a medal at day's end.

Keith, you continue to work diligently to advance soccer in the US. My two boys both played in the NJJSL and went on to play for the New Milford high school team. Their love of the game came from people like you.
