Fire Department Members Elect New Chief
Jeff Greco, a 32-year member of Fire Company 4, will take over for Chief Eric Reamy next year.
The membership of the Fair Lawn Volunteer Fire Department has spoken.
Jeff Greco, a 32-year member of the department, will be its next chief.
Greco, who hails from Company 4, will take over for current Chief Eric Reamy beginning Jan. 1.
"He's a good guy and he's going to do a hell of a job," said Deputy Mayor John Cosgrove, a longtime Company 4 colleague of Greco's. "I'm proud of him."
Greco, a self-described "low-key guy," said his major focus next year will be assuring the procurement of two new fire trucks and some new equipment for the department.
Now 50, he joined Company 4 as an 18-year-old and has been there ever since, building quite the fire fighting family along the way.
Jeff's wife, Diane, whose father was a Fair Lawn fire chief and brother still volunteers with Company 4, has been around the department longer than he has. When their 19-year-old son, Kyle, became a Company 4 member last year, the family could boast three generations of Fair Lawn firefighters.
Younger son, Scott, who's still too young to join Company 4, is a member of the Fair Lawn High School ice hockey team.
Greco said he's looking forward to his first term as chief because he appreciates the camaraderie and tradition within the department and is honored to lead it.
"There's a great group of people here," he said. "120 guys [and girls] that give their all, all the time."
The department's other elected officers for 2013 are Howie Londner, as assistant chief; Kirk Wolthouse, as deputy chief; and town crier Tim Yuskaitis, as battalion chief.
