Fair Lawn's emergency service volunteers, many living without power and heat at their own homes, have worked around the clock since Sandy swept through the area Monday. 

In addition to the well over 100 calls that Fair Lawn's fire department, rescue squad and ambulance corps have answered in town this week, some members have also deployed to towns that suffered far greater devastation than Fair Lawn.

This week, the fire department has sent engines to fight structure fires in the neighboring communities of Saddle Brook and Paterson, watched over Glen Rock while its volunteers attended the funeral of a long-time member and sent task forces to Ocean County and Route 46 in Teterboro for fire calls and evacuations in Toms River, Little Ferry, Moonachie and Carlstadt.

A Fair Lawn ambulance and three ambulance corps members accompanied the six-person fire crew -- which included members from each of Fair Lawn's four fire companies -- that assisted in Ocean County for a 24-hour deployment Wednesday.

The Rescue Squad towed its boat to the flooded towns of Moonachie and Little Ferry Tuesday to perform boat rescues folllowing a levee break, and in the coming days will also be housing and delivering donations being collected for Jersey Shore victims who lost everything in the storm.
