Firefighters Serve as Bartenders for Fundraiser
Fair Lawn Fire Company 4 held a fundraiser at the Dutch House Tavern on Friday night
Members of Fair Lawn Fire Company 4 served as bartenders at the borough's landmark Dutch House Tavern in a fundraiser for the emergency service agency Friday night.
Asked by firefighter Ben Bontekoe, tavern owner Dave Drahouzal allowed the tips collected that evening to go to Company 4. The firefighters' friends and relatives, along with Dutch House regulars, responded generously and packed the tavern all evening. Check out photos from the event at right.
Fire Company 4 extends thanks to friends, relatives and regular Dutch House customers who attended Friday, with special thanks to Drahouzal.

This was a great event, for a great cause! We really enjoyed it, and were happy to see the Dutch House so packed! Looking forward to the next fund raiser in a few months.

It's cool to get behind the scenes and get a feel of what it's like to bartend. It's far more difficult then most people give credit. Like being a teacher, you have to constantly be on your toes, prepared, know your stuff, serve well and maintain a positive attitude through ups and downs, and incredibly important for successful bartenders, be able to relate to everyone who comes through your door. But it can also be very rewarding.
If your interested in getting in on the action and learning some bartending skills you can online. It's generally difficult to get your foot in the door, so do some self training and research before approaching owners. They'll will be much more impressed with your initiative and likely to look past your lack of experience.
