FLHS Cross Country Star, Councilwoman are 'Fastest' in Fair Lawn
Over 400 runners participated in Fair Lawn's 11th annual First Day 5K race on Jan. 1

A 2012 Fair Lawn High School graduate and a former mayor opened 2013 as the fastest man and woman in Fair Lawn.
Adam Ross, 18, finished first among Fair Lawn men, and Lisa Swain, 54, finished first among Fair Lawn women in the borough's 11th Annual First Day 5K race Tuesday. A record 405 runners participated in this year's race, which is sponsored annually by the Sunrise Rotary.
Ross, a Rowan University freshman who was one of the top long distance runners in Bergen County last year while starring on Fair Lawn High School's cross country team, finished sixth overall Tuesday with a time of 17 minutes and 15 seconds.
Swain, a Fair Lawn councilwoman and former mayor with hundreds of races under her belt as a member of the North Jersey Masters Track and Field Club, finished 43rd overall and third among women Tuesday with a time of 20 minutes and 42 seconds.
Cole Dailey, a 29-year-old from Rutherford, was the race's first overall finisher with a time of 16 minutes and 25 seconds. Ridgewood's Sarah Schillian, 28, was the fastest female runner -- and 23rd fastest overall -- clocking in at 19 minutes and 12 seconds.
Proceeds from the race are donated to a number of the Sunrise Rotary’s charitable causes, including Hurricane Sandy relief, support for soldiers overseas, the Gift of Life program and various local charities and non-profit organizations in and around Fair Lawn.
