Fair Lawn Native Founds Mobile App Company
Brian Lomonico, a Fair Lawn-born William Paterson University student, is the founder of mobile application company, Liquid Mobile.
William Paterson University student Brian Lomonico is trying to create a future for himself. Literally.
Last winter, the Fair Lawn native and a few of his friends founded Liquid Mobile, a mobile application development company whose first game, "Picture It" for the iPhone, is scheduled to launch in two weeks.
In "Picture It," a social word-guessing game with an interface that resembles the popular social drawing game "Draw Something," users start out with 100 points and try to guess the identity of an obscured image as it is gradually revealed (see video for demonstration).
Users can rotate the image and add color to it, or purchase special abilities that reveal more of the image. Once the user believes he's identified what he's seeing, he spells it out on the touchscreen keyboard. The more quickly the user identifies the image correctly, the more points he's awarded. The user with the most points in the end wins.
“I’ve always had these great ideas for different things that usually have already been taken and exist,” Lomonico said. “[With 'Picture It'], I’ve created an application that is not only original, but has a degree of competition to it.”
A version of the game that contains advertisements will be available in the iTunes App Store for free. A paid version without ads will cost $1.99.
Lomonico said he knows that in today's crowded mobile app marketplace he's not likely to make much money from "Picture It," but he values the experience he's gained and considers it a solid addition to his resume.
“It’s a labor of love that’s been a lot of fun,” he said. “A four-year college degree isn’t enough anymore and students need to find ways to separate themselves from the pack. Hopefully, that’s what my friends and I are doing.”
After college, Lomonico, who still helps out his parents at the family's Fair Lawn-based driving school, said he'd like to enter the field of mobile marketing full-time.
