used to be a big fan of modern bagels before it was modern bagels... if anyone who reads this works there please know my comments are suggestions not trying to put down your business.
before the addition the bagels and sandwhiches were cheaper and felt like they were more generous with free bagels (buy 6 usually threw one in for free).
my big issue is the breakfast sandwhiches. i pay more money for a pork roll egg and cheese than any other bagel store and they only put one slice of pork roll on there. once i asked for exta and they charged me quite a bit more and it only had 2 slices on it. hot bagels on river road puts 3-4 slices on and it cost less.
if modern were alittle more generous w/ thier portions i would prefer to walk there for breakfast instead of driving to river road. as of now the extra bagels and proper amount of meat on my breakfast sandwhich justify the drive.
once again i do not mean to put down modern- everyone is always friendly there and it seems like they run a great business, just some constructive criticism

I think that Hot Bagels on Saddle River Road has the best bagels in Fair Lawn.Everywhere I have worked when they find out I live in Fair Lawn they give me orders to buy these bagels for them.

Back when there were 3 great baseball teams in New York, when pitchers would usually go the distance, Pop would drive us to Passaic Bagels, across from the schvitz on Hope Ave and pick up Sunday's bagels on Saturday night. And we'd eat half the bag of hot bagels in the car before we made it home. They just don't make em like they used to. Bagels or pitchers. And talk about bialys??? There's no more bialys.

Is it Hot Bagels on River Road (which I am familiar with) or Hot Bagels on Saddle River Road (which I have no idea where that is)? Are there two Hot Bagels places, one on each road? Just trying to clear up the confusion presented in the comments.

Hot bagels on SADDLE RIVER RD! I have family who buy them by the dozen to take home and freeze when they visit. Definitely the best bagels I've ever had.

Hot Bagels on Saddle River Rd.: They're the original and have been consistently the paradigm for bagel making for years. We have family in PA who crave them by the dozens. That being said: all Fair Lawn bagels are better than anything that tries to pass itself off as a bagel anywhere else.

Used to be a big Modern fan, until my child started to work there. If you're there on a weekend, just listen to the way the owner speaks to his employees...what a turn-off!
Hot Bagel on Saddle River Road gets my vote!

Have to agree with Mee too, the owner of Modern is very disrespectful to the kids that work for him.

as a kid many years ago, I remember---(this was in the '50's) going to Hamilton Baking Company in Paterson-in the middle of the night or shall I say early morning 1:00-2:00-3:00 AM down a long alley and get HOT! HOT FRESH! bagels---the place just closed up one day and has never been heard from again at that time they were the best!
