PSEG: Power Back in Fair Lawn by Midnight Sunday
PSEG has offered no timetable for the restoration of power in Saddle Brook.
The vast majority of Fair Lawn may have its power back by the end of the weekend, according to a PSEG work schedule released by the governor's office Saturday.
Gov. Chris Christie released the restoration plans for New Jersey's three primary power companies Saturday in an effort to provide New Jerseyans greater transparency and certainty about the progress of restoration in their towns.
“While progress has been made in restoring power to many businesses, households, and critical infrastructure in the aftermath of Sandy, there are still over 1.25 million customers without power," Christie said in a statement. "So many New Jerseyans have demonstrated significant patience and resilience through the storm and this initial recovery period, and it is our obligation to get them back online and with the certainty of a timeline they can reliably plan their lives around in the coming days.”
The restoration plans, provided by PSEG, Jersey Central Power and Light and Atlantic City Electric, give a town-by-town breakdown of the number of customers serviced, the number of customers without power and a restoration timetable for the next three days.
Fair Lawn has 39.9 percent of its 13,899 PSEG customers still without power, but restoration is expected by midnight Sunday.
In Saddle Brook, 29.8 percent of the 6,570 customers remain in the dark, but PSEG has yet to release a timetable for full restoration.
To access the power restoration plans for PSEG, click here. Note that the column for "% Customers in Service" appears to have been transposed and actually shows the percentage of customers without service.

I haven't minded the absence of power.it's the ridiculous gas situation that is making a problem.

I gotta easily agree with Stuart. I've had power thankfully, but the gasoline situation is a bit out of hand. I almost earned a traffic ticket trying to AVOID a gas line this morning. Thankfully the officer was understanding. Market street was backed up from Midland to god knows where because of the hess station.

The government has failed the people again, what is needed is an immediate closure of stores, business and road closures for 3 business days, no cars on steets in tri state area! Get the gas to the gas stations, let Emergency crews do their jobs and then SLOWLY bring back the above mentioned. Now there's chaos and gaslines are getting longer! Government failed again!

Gib, if the gov't did order businesses to close, everyone would be up in arms about gov't interfering with private enterprise. It's a no-win situation.

Mayor Baratta, who has no power in her own home since Monday, and Deputy Mayor Trawinski have been working in the Public Safety Operations Center in Mahwah. Don't know the status of anyone's home but Jeanne's, but the lights remain out along Fair Lawn Ave - just got back from walking to the stores on River Road and we made a point of looking to see which of our neighbors had lights in the hope that they'd come back on.

Baratta has had lights on in her house for at least two days. I have to drive past here house because I travel on Rt208.
Public Safety Ops Center in Mahwah? What about Fair Lawn? I guess the 6-digit county jobs trump the folks in Fair Lawn.
Lead from behind.
Nice work John Cos.

Michael: I live about three blocks from her house - not only has she not had power in her house, none of the neighborhood on either side of Fair Lawn Ave. has had it.
You just lost whatever credibility you ever had with me by trying to spread that lie, one that can be refuted by the neighbors and everyone with eyes that drives down the street.
When she has not been there, she's been HERE, in the dark, in her home, and in the town's Emergency Management Center.

First of all I want to say that I feel that Fair Lawn gets an A+ on how they handled this storm. It is not the Mayor and Councils job to run the town especially in an emergency. It is OEM's job to manage the emergency. It is the Borough Manager's job to run the town. It is the Mayor and Council's job to make sure they hire the right person to run the town and that he/she has the resources they need. It is not their job to manage the emergency. That being said...the town has done a great job keeping everyone informed and getting us through this. Warming/charging stations have been opened. DPW is doing a tremendous job. Sewer and water is working. Police, Aux Police, Rescue, Fire, and Ambulance have done tremendous jobs. The Mayor and Council have done what they have supposed to have done. Mayor Baratta and Dep. Mayor Trawinski are doing what they get paid to do at the County while still working to make sure Tom Metzler and Ira Marks have what they need. Dep. Mayor Cosgrove has been the point guy on the council keeping all informed and volunteering like he always has done.. Councilmen Peluso and Swain have been in town supporting Metzler and Marks. Sounds like it's working the way it was designed to. Kudos to all!! I hope others post the positives going on in fair Lawn and agree with me how well the town is doing.

Speaking for only myself, the town has done a very good job. There are a lot of moving parts and pieces that had to be coordinated.
I disagree with your assessment of individual responsibilities.
You can delegate duties not responsibilities. We elected officials and hold them accountable.
The elected officials should front and center; not in the background watching.
Why be a Mayor if the town for which you serve takes a backseat to your unelected, political appointed job?
Michael Rosenberg

I certainly would hope in an emergency that they would be supporting the manager and his decision. By the way, New York City has a very different form of government and many different levels. Our form of government is run the way I stated above. Do I think the Mayor and all Council members should be visible in an emergency. Yes I do. People's jobs do come first though.

Guess what Muchael, we also think they should be visible during an emergency.
People's jobs come first though? Maybe they should have run for an office that represents people. Or in Baratta and Ztrawinski's case, maybe they should have resigned when they got their county appointments.
I asked Zak 3 days ago if he had seen/heard from the Mayor. Now I know the answer.

please try to find out about the "outliers," by that I mean for instance Ackerman off SR Road between Berdan and FL Ave....they lost their power way before anyone else in town did and they seem like the forgotten people by PSG...
also two small colonies of streets: Ramapo and Townley....they briefly had power late last night and then it went down again...
also Rutgers Terr. between Sandford and Ryder and the adjacent block that is Ruskin...like in Irene they have lost all power and it almost seems hopeless that they will ever get it back...
there are some really tragic sections in town and these three are among them...
By the way, what's allthe carry-on about Barratta having no power...what's that supposed to be...some point of honor??

Don't stop calling PSE&G's 800 number. A number of friends and family have called and gotten the message that the power has been restored even when it clearly hasn't. PSE&G is padding their numbers and 'estimating' their figures. For 6 days, parts of Plaza, Berdan, Abbott, Radburn, Sanford, and Warren have been closed due to powerlines and trees obstructing the road. No changes in a week, but PSE&G considers this 'fixed'. CALL AND CALL OFTEN!

Mr. Rosenberg has done a good job of explaining how this form of government is designed to work. It's unfortunate that some partisans have seen fit to out and out lie to discredit whoever they can, even if the lies are transparent and debunked by anyone with eyes.
If you have not seen a truck, all that means is you haven't got a problem directly where you are. I never saw a truck on my street fixing our dead cable lines, but they came back on regardless. The same is true for power lines because the problem could be two towns away, in a generator station, or a mile away in a transformer, or buried in a street vault.
If you are complaining that you aren't getting enough information, just how much do you expect? I have had a phone call on my cellphone when my home phone wasn't working, from the BOE and the OEM, telling me what was happening to the best knowledge at the time. I guess I could pout and demand they call me or come directly to my home to give me a personalized assessment of everything. But I understand they are busy doing what they are supposed to be doing. That is how rational, reasonable adults try to behave during a crisis. It's too bad they seem to be in sort supply here.

Do you really think the Council members are capable of climbing up poles and restoring power? Do any of you know how complicated the grid system is? How many substations were knocked out? Do you have any idea how many borough workers are out cutting blown down trees? How many FLPD officers are pulled off the road to manage crazy lunatics on line for gas? Not to mention people with enough gas "topping off" their tanks for no reason? Are Swain and Peluso supposed to yell at PSEG workers? My God, for F**k's sake, SHUT UP!

compared to other towns fair lawn got lucky. i know mr peluso has been collecting clothing and supplies to donate to towns like moonachie and little ferry. i do not have gas to get to these devastated towns however i was able to drop off donations at mr peluso's house on multiple days. everytime i did so he had tons of supplies ready to bring to people who REALLY need it, not people who cant watch thier cable.

"I never called for the council to take action regarding a quicker recovery of power.
Nor do i believe there is anything they can or should have done regarding PSE&G."
so let me get this straight you dont believe there is anything they can or should do regarding the power- but chose to post your negative comments on an article about PSEG and the power.
mr cosgrove is a fireman who is trained for these types of situations and is the type of person who should be out during these types of emergencys. (thank you mr cosgrove and all other FL volunteers). i dont see what the other members parading around town would have accomplished.
personally i prefer my elected officials getting supplies to towns that really need them instead of walking around town shaking hands and kissing babies.

OMG, what is the problem here? We are part of a NATIONAL level disaster. PSEG is doing the best they can to restore it. Frankly, I would think that we would all prefer that the communities and towns that are struggling (oh, like LF and Moonachie) have priority. Additionally, these grids are very complicated. Not seeing the mayor and council? The mayor, to my understanding has been working non stop on a county level. What, are the council supposed to walk around like we are frigging Long Beach Island to comfort us for not being able to charge our Ipads? Shame on all of you complaining!

Office of Emergency Management has turned into more political appointments for gratitude instead of qualifications. The system failed big time. Gas lines were ridiculous, our PD was all tied up with them, people in Fair Lawn still without power. Where is PSEG? The only thing more conspiculosly missing is our Mayor and council(Cosgrove is the exception), As for Peluso, where is this big collection taking place, I missed the memo.
Why is our rescue teams loaned out when our own residents are in the cold and dark? They should be here in Fair Lawn, no where else. I see posts above defending political allies instead of the well being of the residents in FL. Call it as it is folks. A failure of this administration to take control. Just put it on the pile.
