Readers' Choice Best Sushi: Six Happiness
Our weekly Readers' Choice voting ran from Monday at 8 a.m. until Friday at 9 a.m.
If this week's Readers' Choice results are any indication, it appears the Blue Collar Foodie wasn't exaggerating when he called Six Happiness a "real deal" sushi bar.
The small Morlot Avenue Chinese restaurant that also serves sushi took home this week's crown for the best sushi in town with 53 percent of the vote.
Mei Sushi on Plaza Road came in second with 20 percent of the vote and Jersey Farmers Market, already a two-time Readers' Choice winner, garned 14 percent of the vote to finish third.
Six Happiness has been a favorite of local high school and middle school students for some time because of its cheap eats and lunch specials, but it only came to the attention of foodies more recently when it added a sushi bar.
As local blogger The Blue Collar Foodie noted in March, "This is not just a Chinese food restaurant peddling a few rolls made from frozen fish and soggy rice; this is a real deal sushi menu that would rival any true New York City sushi bar."
In addition to the standard rolls you can find most any spot that serves sushi, Six Happiness branches out with a Spicy White Tuna Roll, Yellow Tail Jalapeño Roll, and a Shrimp Mango Roll, just to name a few. The restaurant also has daily sushi roll specials.
"I have never had a piece of sashimi or sushi at Six Happiness that I was not content with," the Blue Collar Foodie writes. "The fish always tastes fresh and the dishes are artfully prepared by the sushi chefs."
Six Happiness is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week and stays open an hour later, until 11 p.m., on Friday and Saturday. Sundays it's open from noon to 10 p.m.
