Rules for Borough Tree Branch Pick-Up

Residents can also drop off branches to the Recycling Center

Residents wishing to dispose of broken tree branches and limbs that came down in Saturday's snowstorm can do so on their normal yard waste collection day.

Just tie the branches in 3-foot lengths or place them in a sturdy container that weighs less than 40 pounds.

If you're so inclined, you can also drop off loose branches at the Recycling Center on Saddle River Road on the following days and times:

  • Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
  • Saturdays 9:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
  • Sundays 12:00 p.m.-3:45 p.m.

The borough would like to remind residents that private landscapers who remove tree branches must dispose of them properly. Landscapers who set branches at the curb are subject to a summons.

For additional information, please contact the Department of Public Works at 201-794-5326 or 201-794-5304.

I was told on Monday by an employee at the center, that I could bring my branches to the curb. When I mentioned the rule about cutting them, he said that due to the event, they would come around with a chipper.
4 days later and after much backbreaking work, my branches are at the curb.

When I asked DPW Superintendent Ron Conte about it yesterday, he told me that if you cut the branches into 3-foot sections, bundle them and tie them up before putting them out on the curb on your recycling day, they'll be picked up as yard waste.

However, if you just leave loose branches and limbs at the curb that aren't cut, bundled and tied, he said it would be longer before they were picked up.

Thank you Zak for the information. It would be impossible for me to cut, bundle and tie. I lack equipment and manpower. I have made several trips to the center but only have a small two seater car, I guess I will have to wait.

The fines issued to landscapers is a joke. My block has 2 individuals who do several houses and they leave behind everything: regardless of the season. My pick up is on Friday's and on my block they leave their bags on Wednesday. I called several times and they only issued 1 warning. The latest is the grass clipping that are just dumped in the street. Here's a suggestion to save the town money, cut back the yard pick up to every other week or eliminate it all together.
