Saddle Brook Crime Rate Down 6.5 Percent in 2011
All index crimes except for motor vehicle thefts dropped last year, according to the 2011 Uniform Crime Report.
Saddle Brook's rates of violent and non-violent crime both fell last year for the first time since 2006, according to the recently-released 2011 Uniform Crime Report.
Index crimes were down 6.5 percent from 2010 and are down more than 10 percent over the past three years, despite a 15 percent reduction in force levels since 2007.
After increasing each of the past three years, the number of violent crimes dropped nearly 40 percent last year due to a reduction in both robberies and aggravated assaults.
In fact, aside from motor vehicle thefts -- which spiked by 50 percent last year -- all other index crimes nosedived in 2011, producing Saddle Brook's second-lowest crime rate since the turn of the century.
