Scariest Halloween Houses in Fair Lawn 2011 Video

With Halloween just around the corner, it's time we hold our annual Scariest Halloween House competition.

As always, this year's 11 nominees were selected by Fair Lawn rank order specialist Cornell Christianson — although a couple were user submitted. If we missed a great house, feel free to write it in the comments below and we'll check it out (with three write-in comments by Friday, I'll add it to the poll). Voting will continue for one week, with winners announced on Halloween. Happy voting!

There is a fine line between creativity and clutter. Some of those houses just have clutter on their lawn. And some you can tell that the family actually thought about what they were doing.

I agree with you. There is something to be said for being simple. There is a house on Bergen Ave., across from Washington School that just has a figure seated in a chair on the top step. Every year, it's there, every year it's slightly different, but it looks like just someone seated on a chair until you get close and realize it isn't. It's more effective than 20 or 30 styrofoam tombstones all over the lawn and all the legions of fake ghouls because it's subtle and it's surprising.

Nice work Cornell - It's always fun to get a visual of homes in town that get into the Halloween spirit.....all look cool - I'll need some time to pick one.

Come check out the one on Hartley Place. An 11 year old boy has created it. He picks a new theme every year.

The Hartley Place house is awesome! Unlike some houses that use the same props each year they change theirs every year- you never know surprises are in store for you when you walk up!! Check it out you won't be dissappointed!!!

With three write-in comments, it looks like I'll be swinging by the Hartley Place house today, photographing it (with owner's permission) and adding it to the poll. Thanks for the heads up!
