Freeholder Ganz' Son Returns from Afghanistan

To mark the safe return of his son, Scott, Freeholder David Ganz took down the yellow ribbon he had placed on his office door in the county administration building soon after Scott was deployed to Afghanistan

Scott Ganz has arrived home safely from Afghanistan, a press release from the office of his father, Freeholder David Ganz (D-Fair Lawn) announced Wednesday.

A Fair Lawn native and army reservist, Scott Ganz had been serving a tour in Afghanistan as an explosive ordinance disposal specialist for the past 13 months.

David Ganz, a former Fair Lawn mayor who has served as a Democratic freeholder for the past decade, marked his son's departure some 400 days ago by placing a yellow ribbon on his fifth floor office door in the county administration building. This week, he was able to remove the ribbon.

“Even though I’ve taken the yellow ribbon down from my Freeholder door, and from the tree in front of our home, the resolution I drew up several years ago requires there to be a yellow ribbon around a post at each county office building in honor of American troops,” said Ganz, who turns 61 on Saturday. He called his son's rotation home a "wonderful birthday present," for both of them -- Scott, who now lives in the Orlando, Fla. area, turns 30 on July 31.

Over the next two weeks, E2 Specialist Ganz will undergo a standard debriefing process in Texas that involves a routine end-of-tour physical and medical procedures, before returning home to his fiance in Orlando.

Welcome home Specialist Ganz, we thank you for your service. Now please convince your father to stop his disservice to the people of Bergen County particularly those of us in Fair Lawn who get to pay for the Ganz Mahal for next couple of decades.
