Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn Girls Soccer Teams Compete in Coach O Classic
Girls Soccer teams from Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook competed over the weekend in the fourth annual Coach O Classic at Saddle Brook High School.
Six high school girls soccer teams competed over the weekend in the fourth annual Coach O Classic, including teams from Fair Lawn and the tournament's host, Saddle Brook.
The Coach O Classic is a soccer event held annually at Saddle Brook High School in memory of longtime township volunteer Steve "Coach O" Olshalsky, who died in 2008 of congestive heart failure.
During Saturday's Coach O Classic action, the Lady Falcons beat Emerson 2-0, to improve to 5-1 on the young season, while Fair Lawn's girls squad fell to Paramus Catholic 4-0, bringing them to 1-2-1 on the year.
According to the event's Facebook page, Olshalsky, a 1965 Saddle Brook High School graduate, was a well-respected coach, teacher and mentor to the children and coaches in Saddle Brook who gave over 25 years of his life to youth sports programs in the community.
In addition to being a soccer coach in the Saddle Brook Soccer Association, and the organization's former president, he was also involved in Saddle Brook's youth baseball programs as a coach and commissioner.
Olshalsky served as a high school softball and soccer referee and was the scoreboard operator and announcer for Saddle Brook High School basketball, wrestling, volleyball and football.
