TJ Faculty to Lose Locks After Students Meet Fundraising Challenge
Three Thomas Jefferson Middle School faculty members will shave their heads Friday after students raised more than $3,000 in less than a week for their healthy heart campaign.

Three Thomas Jefferson Middle School faculty members who offered to lop off their locks if students raised an additional $3,000 this week for the school's ongoing Hoops for Heart fundraiser will be getting buzzed Friday.
Thomas Jefferson vice prinicipal Dominick Tarquino, music teacher Scott Avidon and math teacher Matthew Cecconi agreed to shave their heads if TJ students, who had already obliterated their $10,000 fundraising goal, could get to $16,000 raised by the end of the week. The students were up to the challenge and reached $16,100 by Thursday afternoon.
The soon-to-be bald trio will have their heads shaved at 2 p.m. in front of the entire student body and faculty during the school's Hoops for Heart assembly, a national fundraising program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living and community service that TJ is participating in this year.

god forbid the kids take a break from learning about standardize test that 5% of the students will use in the real world, and they have an event were they have a good time while helping others. loris right we need higher test scores, the world doesnt need kids to learn about helping others

I think it is wonderful and keeps the kids engaged and involved. My daughter was so excited this morning for today's happening. Congrats to all the kids for a superb job!!!! Way to go!!!

@Lori...Besides the curriculum, students are taught Civic and community responsibility and physical fitness. For any school to be successful, students need to be engaged and motivated. I personally feel that this teaches our students so many important life lessons.
