Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Week Ahead: Say Hello to Saddle Brook, Fair Lawn Readers

On Thursday, Aug. 23, Fair Lawn Patch will be adding the adjoining township of Saddle Brook to its coverage area to create a combined Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch site.

As some of you may have noticed, the site has been slightly lighter on content over the past few weeks.

Today, I'm pleased to announce the reason for that downturn has been my recent efforts to get acclimated with the township and people of Saddle Brook, our newest Patch town.

As of Thursday, Fair Lawn Patch will be adding Saddle Brook to its coverage area in an effort to strengthen our coverage of both communities, via a combined Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch site.

It makes sense to our readers and advertisers to combine the two towns in one site, since both face many of the same concerns.

I have every intention of offering robust coverage of both towns, but I'll absolutely need your help. As a single person, it's impossible to cover everything -- even in just one town -- so the primary challenge will be focusing my attention on the stories that matter most to readers in both communities.

So that I can continue focusing on the most impactful stories, I ask that you please ease my transition by sending tips, questions and letters to the editor to zak.koeske@patch.com. If you have an event to promote, an announcement to make or an idea to get off your chest, you can post each on the site independent of me -- this tutorial explains how.

And as always, if you think there's something I'm missing or that could use some tinkering, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Below is a list of other events to keep in mind this week:

Why will Fair Lawn residents care about Saddle Brook news - and vice versa? Now we will have to filter out meaningless information. Fair Lawn and Saddle Brook are not particularly linked! Clearly this is a self-serving move for you and your advertisers! Boo!

I agree. I don't care about Chamberland. That screwed up town makes Fair Lawn look good.

@tracy

Many of our sites cover more than one town. We have Ridgewood-Glen Rock, Westwood-Hillsdale-Washington, Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes, RiverEdge-Oradell, etc.

We'll create a topic page for each town similar to this: http://ridgewood.patch.com/topics/ridgewood-patch ... All you'll have to do is bookmark it.

I know of two businesses that moved from Broadway to Saddle Brook. I bet there are more.

I say give Saddle Brook its own Patch site and own editior. Leave the Fair Lawn site alone.

Saddle Brook doesn't have a $86 million dollar school budget like Fair Lawn, their taxes are much lower like lodi!

I find the patch useful to keep track of the happenings in town - especially with regards to government. Given that as an end user, I am not personally paying for this service (unless Fair Lawn is paying for it somehow), I do not feel I have much in a say if patch wants to combine two towns... So unless someone wants to pony up Zak's salary to stay only in Fair Lawn - there is not much to whine about...

With all due respect, a few days into the merge of Saddle Brook and Fair Lawn Patch I am very unhappy with the outcome. Albeit SB is right next door to us, in my mind it is a world away news-wise. Although we do not have to pay for this service, as a loyal reader I am starting to not log on to the site anymore since most of the landing page this week was Saddle Brook news and not FL. I implore you to create a seperate site for the 2 towns, this way local rotaries, chambers, etc. will still be interested in buying ad space from you, which equals $$$ for you and we the loyal readers will enjoy the patch, and not forget about it all together, just saying.....

@Life-Long FL Resident -- A vast majority of news on the site this week has been Fair Lawn news, and I can assure you that there will continue to be complete coverage of all news that is vital to Fair Lawn residents. In fact, there have been only two Saddle Brook stories written so far -- one today and one yesterday -- although I have a couple more planned for today.

If you only want Fair Lawn news, or you only want Saddle Brook news, I have created topic pages for each that you can bookmark so you will only see news from the town you're interested in.
