What Are the Major Issues For You in the Upcoming Council Election?

We'd like to know what you think of this week's question

Election Day for Fair Lawn Borough Council is just 50 days away and campaigning around town is beginning to pick up.

Seven council candidates (3 Democrat, 3 Republican, 1 Independent) are vying for three open seats.

Beginning next week, Patch will run weekly profiles on each of the seven council candidates.

The Fair Lawn League of Women Voters will hold a Council Candidate Forum next month on Sunday, Oct. 16.

As the election draws near, Patch wants to know what issues are going to inform your vote?

I am very interested in hearing everyone's responses. You can also call me directly at 551-579-4526 if you want to speak to me at length. This should be a great thread.

7-11 ON RIVER ROAD IF ANY COUNCIL MEMBER WAS FOR IT MY VOTE WILL NOT BE FOR THEM. EVEN IF THE COUNCIL MEMBERS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE 7-11 THEY NEVER OPPOSSED IT PUBLICLY. I THINK THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE...UNLESS YOU LIKE BIG GULPS AND TWO DAY OLD HOT DOGS.
And a parking lot with people hanging out and throwing garbage around the lot{check out the lots around the convience stores on river road} this makes me think those who run the town are not concerned with the quality of life for all fair lawn residents.
What's next a gentlemens club in radburn? Where's the voice of fair lawn on this.

Corrupt Fair Lawn Republicans ALL must be voted out. We have 2 Fair Lawn elected officals who work in Bergen County government!!!! This is an outrage. They ran on ending double dipping and now that have each 2 jobs!!! Dump the corrupt Bergen Republicans.

Corrupt? That's a pretty strong allegation! 2 Jobs? I only have one paid job, my council position is volunteer; in my 6 plus years as a Fair Lawn council member I have never taken a dime (no salary, no benefits, no pension). Please understand, a double dipper is someone who holds 2 elected offices. Also, I am always proud to put my name to whatever I write.

delgado: please enlighten us as to why the republicans are corrupt? I am curious, although we can't vote for them till 2013. They do have two jobs and I agree that causes problems, but they are not double dipping.

Just because someone is a democrat or a republican or independent, does not make them corrupt. We need to be Fair Lawn........not parties!

Here are the real issues in the upcoming Council election!
* High Property Taxes
* Excessive Traffic
* Flooding
* Overdevelopment
* Crime
* The need for Seinor Citizen Housing
* Costly Legal Battles with Employees

And who has the experience, leadership and integrity needed to address these issues.

Fair Lawn has lost its small town feel. While it has always been a large town by Bergen County suburban comparisons, it had an unique feel to it that is hard to describe. There is still community pride, but not as strong as it once was.

Our property taxes are high, but 60%+ of those taxes go to education and the Board of Education. Having a strong school system is an asset to the community and at the same time, the Board of Education needs to look at best practices to return that value to the property owner (hint: outsourcing the janitorial staff isn't one of them...).

Safety and security - in one's home, neighborhood and town.

A business-friendly atmosphere which attracts businesses that give Fair Lawn a "home town" appeal.
