More About Congregation Shomrei Torah: The Orthodox Congregation of Fair Lawn
Congregation Shomrei Torah: The Orthodox Congregation of Fair Lawn
Shomrei Torah is an Orthodox Synagogue with about 300 member families. The synagogue places a strong emphasis on recruiting young Jewish families to move to Fair Lawn, and runs programs for young couples such as game nights, apple picking and a "Young Couples Club."
But young couples aren't Shomrei Torah's only focus. For children, the synagogue runs a youth service every Shabbat morning at 9am. Adult education classes, as well as a Men's Club and Sisterhood, are available for all members. The synagogue also runs the Fair Lawn Orthodox community's Mikvah -- a ritual immersion center -- and the Chevra Kadisha, which is a team of volunteers who prepare bodies for burial according to Jewish law. Shomrei Torah also houses the Leah Sokoloff Nursery School.
Rabbi Benjamin Yudin has served as the congregation's leader since 1969. He is a senior member and past president of the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County and in 2007, Governor Jon Corzine appointed him to the New Jersey-Israel Commission. Rabbi Yudin also provides radio commentary on the weekly parsha (Torah portion) on 91.1 FM. His program is heard by thousands of listeners in the tri-state area.
