“The League is concerned that we may see low voter turnout in all three upcoming elections,” said President Ilene Kahn. “It is absolutely crucial for citizens to take their civic responsibilities seriously and make note of all deadlines and election dates. The League is committed to bolstering participation and combating any confusion.”

The deadline to apply by mail for a vote by mail ballot is Tuesday, August 6. County clerks must receive the application by that date. The deadline to apply in-person for a vote by mail ballot is Monday, August 12 by 3 pm at your County Clerk’s office. Vote by mail applications are available at www.lwvnj.org.

“Summer can be a very busy time for voters,” said President Ilene Kahn. “However, it is important to remember that in New Jersey any registered voter can apply to vote by mail. It is important to plan ahead and apply for a vote by mail ballot if necessary.”

New Jersey holds closed primaries and only the Democratic and Republican parties will be on the ballot. The deadline to file a change of party affiliation for the special primary has already passed. However, registered unaffiliated voters (those who have not declared a party affiliation on either their registration form or during a previous primary) may declare at any time up to and including primary election day at the polls and vote in that party’s primary.
