$1 Million in Simon Youth Scholarships includes Awards for Local Students

Ariel L. Murphy (second from right) of Mahwah, NJ has received a Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship valued at $1,500. The scholarship is awarded in partnership between The Shops at Riverside and Simon Youth Foundation (SYF), a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and career development opportunities for youth.

The Shops at Riverside Property Manager Andrew Morgenroth (right) presented Murphy with the award during a recent ceremony held at the center. Joining them was Murphy’s parents Norman Murphy (left) and Susan Steinberg.

Murphy is a recent graduate of Mahwah High School and exemplified herself through academic excellence, leadership skills and participation in both school and community activities. She was a member of the National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society and received numerous recognitions including the United States Congressional Award Gold Medal, Girl Scouts of America Gold Award and Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Gold Level. Murphy plans to study mechanical engineering at Yale University in the fall.

“We are very proud of the Simon Youth Scholarships program, because it has given us the opportunity to support the academic endeavors of promising youth right here in our community,” said Lisa Polino, Director of Marketing and Business Development for The Shops at Riverside.

With a combined value of more than $1 million, Simon Youth Scholarships have been awarded this spring to at least one student in every U.S. community that is home to a Simon® property.
