Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Hackensack

Officials have opened a Disaster Recovery Center at the county administration building in Hackensack, allowing storm-battered locals to get assistance in applying for Sandy recovery programs. 

The center will be staffed with representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration, according to Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan's Office. Information on state and federal programs, disaster assistance and low-interest mitigation loans for private non-profits and businesses will be available. 

Residents should bring photo identification, insurance information, an itemized list of damages and their FEMA registration number if they have already registered with the agency, Donovan's office said. 

Applications for FEMA loans can be completed online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by phone at 1-800-621-3362.

"While supplying photographs of the damages are not mandatory, bringing them will assist in the process. Residents with insurance may also be eligible for FEMA relief," a news release said. 

The center will be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at One Bergen County Plaza, on the 4th floor.
