Week Ahead: Clothing Drive, Snooki in Saddle Brook, Purim 5K Run

Take a look at what's happening this week in Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook.

  • Monday, Feb. 18 (President's Day) -- 
  1. Fair Lawn borough offices are closed for President's Day. There will be regular garbage collection. Recycling in Section 1 moves to Tuesday for bottles and cans.
  2. Fair Lawn public schools are closed for Winter Recess. Saddle Brook public schools are closed for President's Day.
  3. Overnight parking in Fair Lawn is suspended
  • Tuesday, Feb. 19 -- 
  1. Fair Lawn public schools are closed for Winter Recess.
  2. The Mills Law Office is holding a free estate planning and elder law workshopin Saddle Brook. There will be two sessions -- one at 2 p.m. and another at 6 p.m.  Refreshments and a light snack will be served.
  3. Fair Lawn council has a special meeting at 6:45 p.m., followed by a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall's Council Chambers. Click here for agenda.
  4. Saddle Brook Planning Board has a meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 20 - 
  1. Fair Lawn public schools are closed for Winter Recess.
  2. Fair Lawn's Green Team kicks of its One Pound at a Time campaign at 7 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Community Center. The night will feature a nutritionist from Valley Hospital and representatives from local fitness centers.
  • Thursday, Feb. 21 
  1. Fair Lawn public schools are closed for Winter Recess.
  2. The League of Women Voters of Fair Lawn at 1 p.m. at the Fair Lawn Community Center. "Patriocracy" is a documentary that looks at the current polarzied political climate and the way media shapes public opinion. 
  • Friday, Feb. 22 
  1. Although originally scheduled as an off day for Fair Lawn public schools, they will be OPEN to make up for day's lost to Superstorm Sandy.
  • Saturday, Feb. 23 -  
  1. Overnight parking enforcement in Fair Lawn is suspended
  2. The Fair Lawn High School girls lacrosse team is hosting a clothing drive for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. The drive will be held at 12-17 Bellair Ave. and runs from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Click here for more details on donating.
  3. "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi will sign autographs and hawk her line of tanning products at Beach Bum Tanning & Airbrush Salon in Saddle Brook from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  4. Saddle Brook Boy Scout Troop 213 has a beefsteak fundraiser at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall, located at 44 Market St. Admission is $40 per person and includes a beefsteak dinner with pasta and dessert, and all you can drink beer and soda.
  5. Temple Beth Sholom of Fair Lawn will hold its Purim celebration beginning with the Megillah reading at 7 p.m. Adults and children will dress in costumes for the traditional TBS Costume Parade. After the Megillah reading, there will be hamantashen and other refreshments served as well as fun activities and entertainment. For more information, please call the Temple office at 201 797-9321 .
  • Sunday, Feb. 24 - 
  1. Overnight parking enforcement in Fair Lawn is suspended
  2. The Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel will hold its first annual Purim 5K Fun Run and One-Mile Walk at 11 a.m. The race starts and ends in the FLJC/CBI parking lot. The race fee is $18 and all proceeds go to send special needs children to summer camp. Come in Costume. For more information, contact Ilene Laufer at 201-475‐1194 or purimfunrun@fljc.com.
