Week Ahead: Preliminary Budget Vote, Purim Carnival, Book Drive

Take a look at what's happening this week in Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook.

  • Monday, Feb. 25 -- 
  1. Free Blood Pressure Screening from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Fair Lawn Borough Hall.
  2. The Fair Lawn Zoning Board meets at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall Council Chambers to discuss the planned senior housing development on River Road. Click here for agenda.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 26 -- 
  1. The 22-seed Fair Lawn Cutters hockey team faces off in the state playoffs against 11-seed Hillsborough at 4 p.m.
  2. Fair Lawn council has a work session at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall Room 201. Click here for agenda.
  3. The Saddle Brook Board of Education will hold a special executive session meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the High School/Middle School to meet with its superintendent search consultants.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 27 - 
  • Thursday, Feb. 28 
  1. The Fair Lawn Board of Education meets at 7:30 p.m in Room 19 of Edison School. The meeting has tentatively been set aside for the adoption of the preliminary 2013-2014 school budget.
  • Friday, March 1 
  1. The Fair Lawn ADA Committee is hosting a dance for adults with special needs at the Community Center from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There's a $5 cover charge that includes refreshments.
  • Saturday, March 2 -  
  1. Bank of America cardholders can visit cultural venues across the country for free this weekend. Just present photo ID and a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card at the gate.

  2. The Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel will hold its annual Purim Carnival from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend the carnival festivities and dress in costume. 
  3. The North Jersey Symphony Orchestra will perform at Memorial Middle School at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door for aduts, $10 students and seniors. Fair Lawn residents can pick up free concert tickets at the Community School in advance of the concert.
  4. Saddle Brook Girl Scout Troop 4324 is participating in a book drive to help get books into the homes of children from Paterson. The troop is meeting with Mayor Karen Chamberlain on Sunday at town hall to discuss the placement of 10 collection boxes throughout Saddle Brook, and the meeting will be broadcast on Saddle Brook TV.
