River Road District Hosts 1950's Dance Party, Classic Car Show

Classic cars and musical classics from the 1950's were the focus for the first of three classic car show/community dance events planned this spring and summer in Fair Lawn’s River Road District. More than thirty vehicles competed for trophies with dozens of dancers participating in dance lessons and competing for trophies of their own at the event hosted by the River Road Improvement Corporation (RRIC) on May 29th. Gatherings on Thursday, June 12 and Thursday, July 10 will continue the fun with Disco Music and Summer Dance Party themes.

RRIC board members Rich Noorigian and Barbara Simon, along with professional staff from the RRIC, were joined by representatives of the borough including Fair Lawn Mayor John Cosgrove, event presenters Community Bank of Bergen County (CBBC), ShopRite of Fair Lawn owners Inserra Supermarkets, Glam Spot NJ, Community Dance Sponsor Dance A Lot Ballroom Studio and the Fair Lawn Police Department to greet people and share information.

DJ Christine Vitale, host of The Group Harmony Alley on WFDU-FM, the event’s media partner along with the Fair Lawn Community News, served as emcee and provided the musical backdrop as residents of Fair Lawn and surrounding communities danced the night away. Other event sponsors include Kuiken Brothers, STS Tire & Auto Centers, Empress Diner, Fair Lawn Chamber of Commerce, and Tribal Iron Choppers.

Adriana Bezmenova and Georgi Kanev, owners of Dance A Lot Ballroom Studio, provided a high energy performance and lessons in a variety of dance styles in addition to an open dance competition featuring dancers of all ages. Trophies, provided through the generosity of the River Road District’s businesses and commercial property owners, were awarded to adult winner Councilwoman Lisa Swain, who helped organize the event, and to youth winner Anthony Nulman of Fair Lawn.

The winner of the Glam Car Trophy sponsored by Glam Spot NJ was a 1959 Chevy Corvette owned by Lou Roer of Maywood. A 1957 Chevy 210 owned by Steve Herinya of Clifton was awarded the Cool Ride Trophy presented by Community Bank of Bergen County. The Best Vintage Car Trophy, sponsored by Inserra Supermarket’s ShopRite of Fair Lawn went to a 1957 Cadillac Convertible owned by Rich Dabagian of Englewood.
