Cancer Survivor Organizes Fundraiser For Support Group

Fair Lawn resident Janelle Smith has organized a tricky tray fundraiser for Gilda's Club at The Elan in Lodi October 22.

A Fair Lawn woman has organized a fundraiser for the organization which provided her with a support group during her cancer treatment.

Janelle Smith was 24 when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and surgery were able to put the disease into remission, but she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer when she was 26.

Smith underwent more treatment and, as of July, she's cancer-free.

During her treatment, Smith joined a support group with Gilda's Club, an organization which provides free support for anyone with cancer.

"Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey is a totally different type of family," Smith said in a press release. "Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey has helped me through my cancer journey."

In an effort to give back to Gilda's Club, Smith has organized a tricky tray fundraiser at The Elan in Lodi October 22. The event starts at 5:30 and the raffle will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to the event cost $35. To purchase tickets, visit the Gilda's Club website or call (201) 457-1670 and ask for Robin.
