Medication Takeback Scheduled for Saturday

Individuals may dispose of expired or unused medications at the police department on Saturday, Sept. 29.

If you'd like to get rid of expired or unused prescription medications that have been accumulating in your medicine cabinet, you can do so safely on Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., outdated prescription medications can be dropped off at the Fair Lawn Police Department, located at 8-01 Fair Lawn Avenue, as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's 2012 "Operation Take Back NJ" initiative.

Medications can be disposed of either in their original container or just dumped directly into the disposal box.

If the original container is submitted, the individual is asked to remove the prescription label if it contains any personal identifying information so that people disposing medicine may remain anonymous.

While liquid products may be dropped off as long as they remain sealed in their original container, syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
