Alert Passer-By Reports Fair Lawn Fire

The Fair Lawn Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire in an industrial building on Banta Place.

Fair Lawn firefighters extinguished a fire inside a Banta Place industrial building early Tuesday morning after a passer-by reported seeing smoke coming from the building.

The witness reported the fire at about 5:45 a.m., according to Fair Lawn Fire Chief Jeff Grecco. Firefighters arrived at the scene and cut through an overhead door to reach the fire, which seemed to have been burning for some time in a storage area, he said.

It took firefighters less than a half-hour to extinguish the flames, according to Grecco.

There were no injuries and the fire didn't burn any holes through the building, though flames did peak through the roof, Grecco said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Tuesday afternoon, but it appeared to be accidental.
