Car Burglar Arrested on Fourth Anniversary of Same Crime, Police Say

Hiram Maldonado was arrested for the same crime in the same place exactly four years ago, according to Fair Lawn Police.

Fair Lawn Police arrested a 40-year-old Paterson man Thursday night who was trying to break into cars in a Broadway parking lot, according to Sgt. Brian Metzler.

Hiram Maldonado was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools, four years to the day after Fair Lawn police previously arrested him for the exact same crime.

Police were responding to a string of burglaries at the Lucille Roberts on Broadway at 5:48 p.m. Thursday. Maldonado was allegedly going up to parked cars and pulling door handles. Detective Paul Donohue found Maldonado had a flashlight, screwdriver and gloves to allegedly use in the attempted burglaries, according to Metzler.

When Maldonado was arrested four years ago, it happened in the same parking lot, according to Metzler.

Police also found arrest warrants for Maldonado out of Paterson, Elizabeth and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department. Bail was set at $10,000 and Maldonado was sent to Bergen County Jail.

Metzler said police wished to remind residents to lock up their belongings to help deter burglars.
