A driver traveling westbound on Broadway Sunday afternoon careened into a pole after her car was struck by an eastbound vehicle attempting to turn left from Broadway onto 17th Street, police said.
The westbound car's rear passenger, who complained of neck and back pain, was immobilized on a board and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, police said. None of the other occupants in either vehicle required medical attention.
Police said the driver of the left-turning Nissan Infiniti who initiated the accident had her vision obscured by a truck stopped in the left westbound lane. Upon pulling out in front of the truck onto 17th Street, she failed to see a black Toyota Corolla whizzing by beside the truck in the right lane and struck the vehicle, police said.
The impact of the collision bounced the Corolla into a telephone pole on the right-hand side of Broadway West.
Both the front-end damaged Infiniti and the Corolla, which suffered major front and driver's side door damage, were towed from the scene.
Public Service & Gas deemed the pole safe after performing an inspection, police said.
Elmwood Park officers assisted with traffic at the scene.
