Damage 'Widespread' From Sudden Storm

There had been a tornado watch in effect until 5 p.m.

A sudden storm which quickly blew through the area Monday afternoon caused "widespread miscellaneous damage," according to Fair Lawn Police Acting Lt. Joseph Dawicki.

The roof of one Broadway building on the 27 block was seriously damaged. There was also damage to many houses, businesses and fences around town, he said.

"There's a lot of damage throughout the town" Dawicki said.

Fair Lawn resident Sheena Abraham said she and her husband were picking up their daughter at Warren Point School when the downpour and wind suddenly hit. The gusts almost pushed Abraham into traffic and it knocked her daughter down, she said.

Fallen branches also damaged cars parked at the school, according to Abraham.
