Fair Lawn Man, 23, Killed by Train

Kenneth Gibbs Jr. was hit by a train near the Broadway station Saturday afternoon.

A 23-year-old Fair Lawn resident was killed after he was hit by a train Saturday afternoon.

Kenneth Gibbs Jr. was hit by the Hoboken-bound train at about 1:42 p.m. Saturday, according to NJ Transit spokesman William Smith. The incident occurred just east of the Broadway station, near the border of Elmwood Park.

NJ Transit Police are continuing to investigate the incident, but believe it was a suicide, according to Smith.

There were no passengers onboard the train at the time, Smith said. Service was suspended on a portion of the Bergen County Line for more than an hour.

Another Fair Lawn man was killed by a train near the Radburn station August 1. Bergen County has had more deaths by train than any other New Jersey county so far this year, NJ Transit officials previously said.
