Fair Lawn Man Found Guilty on Toddler Molestation Charges, Report Says

John Katsigiannis could face up to 20 years in prison after a Hackensack jury found he sexually assaulted a 15-month-old girl five years ago, according to northjersey.com

A Fair Lawn man was convicted Monday on charges he molested his ex-girlfriend's 15-month-old daughter during a barbecue he hosted in June of 2007, according to a report on northjersey.com.

The prosecution alleged John Katsigiannis, 30, used his finger to molest the child with such force that she suffered significant bleeding that required corrective surgery, according to the news site. Katsigiannis claimed the girl was injured when he attempted to change her diaper and inadvertently scratched her.

A deadlocked jury failed to reach a verdict at his aggravated sexual assault trial in 2011. But with Monday's jury decision, he will serve at least 85 percent of his term, potentially 20 years in all, northjersey.com reports.

Katsigiannis also made headlines in 2011 when he appeared at Borough Hall to defend claims his "vicious" dogs were escaping his property, biting neighbors' dogs and posing a significant danger to humans. The as they had not bitten any humans.

His attorney plans to appeal the sexual assault verdict, northjersey.com reported. Katsigiannis will be sentenced on March 8.

I say they castrate him!

He is innocent and will keep fighting for his freedom.

DO NOT put your two cents in, unless you know all the facts!

"significant bleeding that required corrective surgery" Is this a fact? Because if this is a fact then I imagine the lack of toddlers requiring corrective surgery due to accidental diaper change incidents would indicate that your friend was charged correctly. I have changed some pretty messy diapers that involved some serious cleaning and my finger never "slipped", even gently, into my child's vagina or anus.

Apparently the jury in this trial didn't fall for the " it was an accident" defense. Last article I read indicated that this was the defense during the last trial.

the childs mother was in the room at the time of the incident... no one has the right to comment unless they were there or know him personally... its easy to judge when it has nothing to do with your own "perfect little lives."

He did admit to this only to protect the neglant mother of whom already had a strike against her w/ dyfus. He was push by the police after a 30hr interigation. He was WRONG for covering for her, however ,a good man shouldl not be held because of his willing to protect. Yes the baby did need surgery, only b/c the mother claims "she had no idea what happen ". there are more facts that play in this, BUT trust me when i tell you that this gentleman is INNOCENT and the truth will provail.

"30 hour interrogation"? "He did admit to this only to protect the neglant mother" , "there are more facts that play in this". Hard to believe what you have posted here, none of it makes any sense.

How is it that (to my knowledge) during 2 trials, the "cover up" was never brought up by the defense? Maybe because this is made up now as a new story to try to weasel his way out... no person would ever cover for someone else if they were facing hard time in lockup and known as child molester in the clink. And wasnt the mother the one who sought out medical attention for her daughter in the 1st place? As much as you would like to believe your friend or family member is innocent "Annoyed" and "Keep Opinions" you need to wake up and smell the roses!!! At the 4th trial next he will say that his killer dogs (whom never bit or killed humans..... YET) made him do it, like Son Of Sam

If the "perfect little lives." that you speak of involves being sexually abused by a grown man for 9 years, then yes, my life was perfect. However, you're correct, I don't know him personally. I'm sure he's a real outstanding guy just like all the nice priests, boy scout leaders, coaches and all the other upstanding gentlemen of communities who sexually assault children. The fact remains that people all over the world change billions of diapers every day and children don't have excessive bleeding and reconstructive surgery. If you can explain to me how that "accidentally" happened then I'll be thrilled to have your buddy babysit my kids.

100% AGREE! I do not care who you are if anyone has even been questioned/interigated for an hour, you most certainly know they can get you to agree to anything. Never mind 30hours! Oh and for that poor mom who knew nothing. Look into how many times DYFS had to look into the babys welfare. This lady will get whats coming. I just hope she gets to sit endless hours on a 1 inch mat before she hurts her baby or anyone else for that matter.

I knew John, he was a bully in high school, called every kid "hey faggot" rather by their names. And like the typical bully, he ranked 210 out of 211 students at our HS. People called him "210" vs. John. But as much as I wasn't a fan of him, he didn't do it and I'll tell you simply why. He's an idiot, like the guy makes Paris Hilton look like a Fulbright Scholar. He is the type that is stupid enough to lie to the police, cover up, and keep talking to the police. That scenario is incredibly likely as he's really that dumb, but why in the world would he stick his finger up there? He's guilty for being an idiot, but most likely nothing more. One would have to think and put an ounce of thought to plan something like this, I assure you, he can't connect two dots on a piece of paper. Plus, during the mistrail, the prosecutor even emitted "we didn't have a strong enough case"... If the family is reading this, appeal the verdict. The girl John would date would only logically be just as dumb, and idiots don't tend to be mom of the year.
