Fair Lawn Octogenarian Gets Five Years For Downloading Child Porn

An 81-year-old Fair Lawn man was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday for downloading images and videos showing child sexual abuse, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said in a statement.

Joseph Anthony Amari pleaded guilty to the charges in March that he used a peer-to-peer file-sharing service to download the illegal material.

Five years was the mandatory minimum sentence for Amari, who is currently serving another sentence for endangering the welfare of two children. He will serve the two sentences concurrently, according to Fishman.

Amari downloaded the images and videos in 2007. He was initially charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in 2009, after an 11-year-old girl told detectives that he had been sexually abusing her at his home in Fair Lawn since she was five years old, according to a 2009 NorthJersey.com report.

After Amari completes his prison time, he will still be under supervision for five more years.
