Fair Lawn Police Giving Glowsticks to Trick-or-Treaters

This is the 15th consecutive year of the program.

Fair Lawn Police have been handing out glowsticks to students in borough elementary schools ahead of Halloween to help the children be more visible while trick-or-treating, according to Sgt. Brian Metzler.

The idea came from Police Officer Mary Ann Collura in 1999, who was killed in a line-of-duty shooting in 2003. The statue of Officer Collura shows her with two young children dressed as a police officer and a firefighter for Halloween.

The year marks the 15th consecutive year of the program.

For any borough children who do not attend Fair Lawn schools, parents can contact Sgt. Metzler at 201-794-5365 or bmetzler@fairlawnpd.com to obtain glowsticks.
