Fair Lawn Woman Took Drug Paraphernalia to Court, Ridgewood Cops Say

The accused now faces possession charges.

Ridgewood police say a Fair Lawn woman brought something unexpected to a municipal court appearance last Thursday – and now she's facing charges.

According to village police, Ptl. Jeff Casson found drug paraphernalia when he searched the bag of Danielle Allegretti, 29, at a security check for court on Jan. 24. Allegretti was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was released pending a future court appearance in Ridgewood.

It's not the first time police say someone forgot to leave illicit items home for a court appearance.

In November, police said 37-year-old Ridgewood man tried to get through security with a backpack containing marijuana, cocaine, numerous prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.

Drug paraphaphernalia possession is low on the totem pole of drug charges. The officer didnt find any drugs, just some undescribed items that might be used for the consumption or handling of drugs. So instead of offering to help her with her suspected drug use, the officer arrests her. Maybe the woman wasnt bright, but are we satisfied that the best we can do for this woman is convict her?

I agree Raul. Drug and alcohol addiction is a difficult disease that affects millions of families. Couldn't we be more compassionate when dealing with this?

Anyone who is foolish enough to show up at court with drug paraphernalia deserves what they get. The person at the door is a law enforcement person not a substance abuse outreach worker. It does not say what charges she was answering to or if she was even a defendant, but come on you are going to a court – STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES.

The smart criminals work on Wall Street or get elected to national offices, the stupid criminals bring drugs and drug stuff to a court hearing loaded with police officers. If you're dumb enough to bring illegal stuff to court with you, chances are that you have bigger problems than drug addiction.
