Rapper Jim Jones Charged with Disorderly Conduct in Fair Lawn

Rapper Jim Jones was arrested Wednesday after an altercation with a Fair Lawn police officer outside his Ward Street home, police said.

Fair Lawn resident and rap mogul Jim Jones was arrested Wednesday after he "got out of line" with an officer who was handling a parking complaint in front of the Dipset founder's Ward Street home, police said.

Jones, whose legal name is Joseph, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction for refusing to peaceably settle two outstanding warrants for his arrest, Lt. Derek Bastinck said.

Sgt. James Corcoran was in the process of having a snowbound and illegally parked car outside Jones' home at the corner of Grunauer Place and Ward Street towed, when Jones approached him to ask what he was doing, police said.

According to police reports, Jones agreed to remove the vehicle from the roadway and pay the towing fee.

However, when Corcoran proceeded to run Jones' name through a police database, he found two warrants out for Jones' arrest -- one from Paterson for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and one from Fair Lawn for failure to remove snow from his sidewalk.

When Corcoran asked Jones to go with him to police headquarters to settle both active warrants, Jones denied their existence, became disorderly and tried to walk away as the sergeant was placing him under arrest, according to police reports.

"If [people with oustanding warrants] agree, we'll just have them come down and pay what they owe," Bastinck said, "but if they don't agree, they're placed under arrest."

As a result of his failure to cooperate, Jones was arrested and taken into police custody, Bastinck said. He was later released after posting bail for the outstanding warrants.

Bastinck said this was the first time they'd had a problem with the celebrity resident.

This happens to all the -rapper moguls- every time we have snow. Its one of the hazards of living so close to NYC. Hang in there, spring is just a few months away.

Why is this even news? A rapper is not an artist...or a singer for that matter. (yo yo yo)

Typical racist. Jim Jones is a talented performer who can sing and someone who I'm proud to call my neighbor.
why didn't I think of that February 22, 2013 at 02:40 PM
saying that rap isn't music or art doesn't make you a racist. If it was Eminem would Rick be called a racist. Its only his opinion about rap and not the skin color of the rapper.

nonetheless, it's fairly ignorant to not call rap music.
