Saddle Brook Police Swear-In New Officer

Rebecca Sanchez will start at the police academy Friday.

Saddle Brook's newest police officer was sworn-in during a ceremony at the township municipal building Thursday night.

Rebecca Sanchez, 25, has volunteered with the Saddle Brook Ambulance Corps since 2006. She holds a master's degree in criminal justice from Rutgers and interned with the New Jersey Parole Board and Bergen County Sheriff's Office.

Sanchez said she was happy to receive the appointment and excited to start at the police academy Friday.

The Saddle Brook Police Department historically had 34 officers, according to Chief Robert Kugler. That number dropped over the past six years. With Sanchez and two other new recruits, the department has 25 officers, Kugler said.
