A 10-year-old girl and her 35-year-old dad were hospitalized after being hit by a minivan on Fair Lawn Avenue Wednesday evening, according to Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler.

The collision occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. when the pair were crossing the street at Abbott Road and the driver was traveling eastbound on Fair Lawn Avenue. The girl and the man were both sent to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Metzler said.

Summonses were pending for the 50-year-old driver, he said.

Pedestrian safety has been an ongoing concern in Fair Lawn. Local students recently distributed reflective safety tags to commuters at the Radburn Station and several upcoming projects, including some on Fair Lawn Avenue, are designed to make it safer to cross the street.

@Janice Rose above. The only posts from FLPD on any social media or news was to warn drivers of the street closing. The FLPD are generally good people. They keep an eye out for problems and respond quickly. Show me where there was anything posted about anyone's name regarding this incident?

I am talking I general. They like to drag people's name thru the newspaper that have not murdered anyone , just made mistakes. Instead of getting people help we just abolish / shame then thru the media. All you people suck and there is not enough midol in the world to change that,

@Janice, very funny...I agree, first of all you are not guilty of anything until you go to court...so you should have some privacy. However, this article does not mention the injured or driver by name, so that is good right? Also, I have mixed feelings about these crosswalks, you should be able to cross, however it gives a false sense of security. I'm not saying it happened here, but some people just walk out into traffic thinking that the car should immediately see them and stop.

Everyone needs to look both ways and cross defensively. There are too many idiots who should not be driving out there. Take a look at where this happened (https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!data=!1m8!1m3!1d3!2d-74.118282!3d40.939894!2m2!1f239.7!2f79.07!4f75!2m12!1e1!2m7!1slJWuiijTULirfmk0PGYO6Q!2e0!5sFair+Lawn+Avenue!6f598.4312!8s%2F%2Fgeo0.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26output%3Dthumbnail%26thumb%3D2%26panoid%3DlJWuiijTULirfmk0PGYO6Q%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D339%26pitch%3D0%26ll%3D40.939894%2C-74.118281!9m1!6sFair+Lawn+Avenue!5m2!1slJWuiijTULirfmk0PGYO6Q!2e0&fid=5) You can see there are crosswalks and yield signs all around. And Janice, although no one was killed, people were injured.

my thoughts and prayers go to this kid and family. it is sad that it is common to see an article about someone getting hit by a car on fair lawn ave. the only solution is for our police to be more aggressive. during rush hour there should be multiple police along fair lawn ave. if someone is speeding even slightly give them a ticket that is the only thing that will prevent them from doing it in the future. if someone does not yield for a pedestrian pull them over as well. if commuters see drivers see cops taking action it will prevent them from doing it in the future. i also agree with most interesting, pedestrians must be a lot more careful when crossing, do not assume someone is going to let you cross just because there is a cross walk. sometimes a driver will not see the person with enough time to come to a complete stop. personally i do not cross unless there is no cars in site or if a car comes to a complete stop and waves me on to cross.

Janice: You blame the police for dragging your real name through the papers? The police have no say in what gets printed and the news outlets and people in general are given the right to that information by LAW. You are blaming the wrong people for your good name being dragged through the news for breaking the law.
