Teens Find Body Behind Memorial Soccer Field

Three local teenagers found the body of a resident lying face up in the woods behind the Memorial Middle School soccer field last Tuesday, police said.

Three teenagers discovered the body of a man lying face up in the woods behind the Memorial Middle School soccer field last Tuesday while walking along the path that overlooks the field after school, police said.

The teens called out to the man from the path, which wraps around the soccer field and behind a half-dozen homes on 2nd Street, but received no response and subsequently notified police, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Police responded to the scene and identified the man as a 25-year-old Fair Lawn resident. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bergen County medical examiner. The man's name is being withheld at the request of his family.

The cause of death is still pending investigation, but it is not considered suspicious, Metzler said. He said police suspect the man may have died of an accidental overdose because drug paraphernalia was found next to his body.
